Running Start Summer Quarter

Summer Running Start

Earn tuition-free college credits when you take SPSCC classes this summer. Current and new Running Start students are welcome to join!

Legislation has made significant investments to expand Running Start this summer, and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) are providing additional funding to serve even more students.

Thank you for your interest in Summer Running Start. The Summer 2022 application window has closed. This page will be updated for Summer 2023 in the spring.

Qualify for Summer Running Start

If one of these is true about you, we can pay your qualifying summer tuition!

  • You're a high school senior with 15 or fewer credits left to complete your SPSCC associate degree.
  • You're a high school junior who already used the 1.20 annual FTE limit.

  • You're going into your junior or senior year and want to enroll in a Professional Technical (Prof Tech) class to complete your high school CTE requirement or SPSCC Prof Tech program.

  • You're going into your junior or senior year and want to enroll in CCS 101 (a required class for degree-seeking SPSCC students) or CCS 102, 103, or 104 to complete your High School and Beyond requirement.

  • You're going into your junior or senior year and want to take classes for credit recovery at your high school.

  • If you don't fit any of the categories above, but you will be a Running Start student this fall, we may still have funding for you during Summer Quarter. We encourage you to apply!

Tuition, Fees, Books & Support

Tuition & Fees

Summer Running Start funding covers the cost of tuition on qualified courses. If you enroll in other courses during summer, enroll after the deadlines above, or change your enrollment after the deadlines, you will be responsible for payment of the tuition and fees for those courses.

Transportation to on-campus classes, technology, and internet connection to support online learning are the responsibility of the student.

Course fees, books, and supplies are the responsibility of the student.

Fee Waiver & Book Borrow Programs

Some Running Start students qualify for a Fee Waiver. New students should review and complete the Fee Waiver request. Current students will automatically have the fee waiver applied to their Summer Quarter enrollment.

Any Running Start student can apply for the Summer 2022 Book Borrow lottery program. Students must be enrolled in classes before applying for the Book Borrow.
