Food and beverage will enhance what we learn throughout the weekend as we visit distilleries, dine at fabulous establishments, and enjoy the beautiful Thurston County area.

How to Register

This weekend is designed as a getaway package for people outside of the area to come and have a unique experience with minimal things to organize. There are three different packages:

Welcome, Check-in & Tasting Dinner

Welcome to the Governor Hotel, located in downtown Olympia with walking access to coffee roasters, night life, the farmers market, the state capitol and the beauty of the sound. There is a walking path with beautiful views of the Sound, the Capitol, the historic Olympia Brewhouse, and Tumwater Falls.

Get situated in your rooms, we will gather in the lobby at 5:30 pm to get your welcome packet for the weekend, meet your educational tour guide from The Whiskey People, Treacy Duefeldt, and catch the shuttle for Ricardo’s Restaurant. We have reserved a fireside area at Ricardo's with a fantastic menu with local seasonal products, paired with special whiskeys, and we will begin the exploration of the language of whiskey, the different ways you can taste whiskey, and connect you to the flavor profiles of the products and food.

Return to the Governor Hotel by shuttle at 9:00 pm.

Explore, Experience & Indulge

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then catch the 8:30am shuttle to Sandstone Distillery where the owners,father and son team, John and Justin Bourdon, will talk about how Northwest whiskeys are made, the ingredients that make for a great whiskey, and the art of barrel aging, including some innovative twists and tips.

The shuttle will travel to South Puget Sound Community College Percival Restaurant for a special lunch event at 11:00 am, where the Chef has prepared a culinary treat that illustrates how spirits can be used to complement your cooking (Salish Sea Organic Liqueurs). The Whiskey People will cover the food and beverage movement and how to pair food and whiskey together.

Shuttle back to the hotel between 1:00-1:30 pm for you to rest, shop downtown and dress for dinner. The shuttle for dinner will leave the hotel at 5:00 pm and arrive at Mediterranean Breeze at 5:30 pm. The evening will begin with a Whiskey Cocktail class with specially plated appetizers.

You will learn to make two different cocktail recipes and ways to adjust these recipes for your pallet or event. Enjoy the tastes of specialty cocktails and amazing tastes as the Whiskey People help you define your whiskey palete and help you pair a beverage with your meal of choice. This meal and chosen drink is not a part of the package so that people can choose and explore what matches their desires.

The shuttle will return you to the hotel between 9:00-9:30 pm. We will be providing you a map with some local places you may want to check out for those that feel adventurous and are within walking distance of the hotel.

Sunday, October 15

Arise, Renew & Reinvent

222 Market, Olympia
Shoebox Spirits or Chelsea Farms Oyster Bar

A light breakfast will be at the hotel and the shuttle will leave at 9:00 am.  We will head down the street to 222 Market, a wonderful new attraction in downtown Olympia that brings together artesian food, crafts, and drink in a European type market setting.  We will have a welcome to the market and split up into groups to make sure that people can experience the two spaces we will be exploring. The groups will then switch places.

One group will go to Shoebox Spirits and learn about their spirits, which include vodka, gin, and moonshine (un-aged whiskey), and talk about the new trends to old recipes in whiskey and the innovation that is happening in the industry.  A tasting flight will be explored and discussion of flavoring will be covered. The other group will enter the Chelsea Farms Oyster Bar and join Cody Goodwin, who studied with the court of Master Sommeliers, Diageo's World Class, and is Seattle's reigning Woodford Reserve's Manhattan Experience Champion, for a discussion of the craft food movement and the connection to local products that create unique experiences.

We will then take the shuttle back to the hotel to do a closing ceremony and special gifts.  You are then free to get on the road back home or spend more time exploring our unique city.
