Collaborative Jean Sculpture Project

Artist image

In the midst of design & installation planning for my exhibition at South Puget Sound Community College, I discovered the jean skeletons represented a global community of makers. This evolved into a collaborative concept to include a diverse group of artists and art disciplines.

Each sculpture is a balancing act of many makers. My first goal is to honor the original makers; next to acknowledge the fiber in the jeans through the deconstruction and reconstruction of the denim; next to give new life to the jeans by sculpting the “bare bones” with wire; the fourth transformation was my invitation to artists to reinvent the ‘skin’ in a personal gesture that would “heal” thus stretching their way of looking at the world through the re-creation of the jeans.
