Seven nominated for 2018 Sports Awards

Seven SPSCC student athletes, former student athletes, and coaches have been nominated for the 2018 Sports Awards. Award winners will be announced at the 2018 Sports Awards, hosted by Thurston County's Sports commission, on June 19 at Indian Summer Golf & Country Club from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Student jazz combo performs live on KNKX

Love jazz? Don't miss the live performance of local student jazz combo The Waywards on KNKX radio on Wed., June 13, 2018 at 12 p.m.

The Waywards are made up of SPSCC, SPSCC CCE, and TESC students:

  • Noah Plumley
  • Theo Ragan
  • Nick Rawson
  • Rogan Keys
  • Danielle Westbrook

The group will be interviewed on air and will perform live on KNKX for a studio audience.  Listen online at KNKX.org or tune into 88.5 F.M.

Twenty-one donors join the President's Club Lifetime Circle

The SPSCC Foundation held the biennial President's Club event on Thursday, May 3, 2018.  SPSCC president Tim Stokes along with SPSCC Foundation staff and donors welcomed 21 new members into the President's Club Lifetime Circle.  Lifetime Circle members have cumulative giving of $25,000 or more to the SPSCC Foundation.

The SPSCC Foundation thanks the 21 inductees for their support of the college and dedication to creating access to education for all students.

Culinary Arts accreditation visit receives a perfect score

The Culinary Arts program received a perfect score at the American Culinary Federation (ACF) accreditation visit on April 24 – 26, 2018. ACF evaluators noted zero areas of non-compliance with ACF policies and procedures. They also noted the program's culture of camaraderie, professionalism, alignment with current industry trends, and industry impact.  The program was granted a five-year certification, the longest certification offered to programs with zero points of non-compliance.

Student film collaboration transcends culture and language

"Heart to Heart, One World to Another”, was an international cross-cultural film/media collaboration between SPSCC and Hagoromo International University (Osaka, Japan). Students, faculty, and staff for both institutions wanted to convey continued kindness around the world. The film was screened as part of SPSCC's 2018 Winter Film Showcase and has been selected to be included in Thurston Community Media’s independent film program Short and Sweet produced by the Olympia Film Collective.

President Tim Stokes earns ACT Chief Executive Officer Award

The South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Board of Trustees announced that SPSCC president Dr. Timothy Stokes will receive the 2018 Chief Executive Officer Award from the Washington State Association of College Trustees (ACT).  Stokes will be formally recognized on May 10 at the ACT Spring Conference at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash.

Awarded annually, the Chief Executive Officer Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in furthering the mission of community and technical colleges.
