SPSCC will host the South Sound’s only banquet event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the college on Jan. 14, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the college’s Student Union Building.

This year’s keynote speaker, a feature in the SPSCC Artist & Lecture series, is mayor-elect Michael Tubbs of Stockton, CA.  Tubbs, a first-generation Stanford graduate from South Stockton, is a passionate advocate for education, community, and policy. His keynote will reflect on his takeaways from the election, how communities can promote progress in the current political climate, and the importance of Dr. King’s legacy around education as a fundamental right.

In addition to Tubbs’ keynote, the event will include a delightful menu from SPSCC’s Culinary Arts programs, drinks and desserts, live musical performances, and more.

The annual banquet is a partnership between SPSCC, Thurston Group of Washington State, The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound, and Olympia Federal Savings.  SPSCC Trustee and founding member of Thurston Group Barbara Clarkson has successfully advocated for this event for years.  Last year, Thurston Group awarded youth scholarships to two SPSCC students.

Tickets are available for $40 and sponsorships are available through the SPSCC Foundation.
