COVID-19 Update: Educator Vaccine Mandate

Today, Gov. Jay Inslee issued a proclamation re-instating a statewide mask mandate and requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for employees working in K-12, childcare, early learning, and higher education. Per this new requirement, all SPSCC staff and faculty are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 18, 2021.

Prior to October 18, all faculty and staff will need to provide verification of vaccination (a CDC vaccination record card or other official record) or seek an exemption. Individuals can seek exemptions to this requirement for legitimate medical reasons or sincerely held religious reasons. This requirement applies to all staff, faculty, contractors, and visitors. It does not impact students.

We are currently building our processes for verification and exemption and will send details on those soon.

It is important to note that the requirement is to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18 (approximately 8 weeks from now). According to the CDC, people are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving all vaccine doses (2 doses for Pfizer or Moderna or 1 dose for Johnson & Johnson). Thurston County is hosting daily walk-in vaccination clinics and the vaccine is available through most pharmacies and health care providers. Visit vaccines.gov for a list of vaccination site near you.

We will share more information and guidance on this requirement as it becomes available.
