The Black Hills State University men's basketball team has announced the addition of Dez Stoudamire as part of its 2017 signing class.

Stoudamire is a 6-2 guard from Portland, Oregon, and transfers to BHSU after becoming the all-time leading scorer at South Puget Sound Community College, tallying 1,153 points in just two seasons.

"Dezmond is a great addition to our program," head coach Jeff Trumbauer said. "He had a tremendous career at South Puget Sound, assisting his team to their best two seasons in school history.

"He's proven the ability to stretch the defense with his outside shooting, having made 185 3-point baskets in the last two seasons. Our team made great strides defensively this past season, but to continue moving us in the right direction, we need to pack a bigger punch offensively and I am confident that Dez will be very helpful in that regard."

Stoudamire is a two-time NWAC First Team All-West Region honoree and was named to play in the NWAC Sophomore All-Star Game this past season. The junior-to-be shot 45 percent from the field over his two seasons at SPSCC including a combined 41.5 percent from long range while averaging 21 points per game as a freshman and 20 points per game as a sophomore.

He scored a career-high 41 points against Skagit Valley his freshman season and scored in double-digits in 26 of 29 games his sophomore campaign.

A graduate of Centennial High School in Portland, Oregon, Stoudamire averaged 23 points per game.

Stoudamire is the cousin of former NBA Rookie of the Year Damon Stoudamire and NBA veteran Salim Stoudamire while his brother Patrick played in the NFL for the 49ers and Patriots. Dez also credits his cousin Antoine as a mentor, as Antoine played for Georgetown and the University of Oregon before playing overseas.

Dez is set to join the Yellow Jackets for the beginning of classes in the fall along with other 2017 signees Jackson Ehrlin and Trey Winkler.
