SPSCC Foundation launches small business loan fund

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) today announced the launch of the Growth & Innovation Fund, a joint effort between the SPSCC Foundation and the Center for Business & Innovation (CB&I). The fund gives entrepreneurs access to small business loans and ongoing support. It aims to encourage entrepreneurship in Thurston County and impact job creation and the local economy.

Student Services close at 2pm on Oct. 5

October 4, 2018

All student services in The Center for Student Success (Bldg. 22) will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, for The Experience annual fundraising event. The One Stop, Start Here desk, Library, Assessment Center, tutoring centers, and other services will remain closed for the weekend; they will resume regular hours on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018.

Accreditation visit scheduled for Oct. 31

September 4, 2018

SPSCC will host the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, 2018, for a comprehensive evaluation during its accreditation process. Comments from the public are invited and considered with regard to the institution’s qualification for accreditation.

Public comments should be submitted in writing and with an original signature by Sept. 30, 2018, to the NWCCU. Signed comments are forwarded, as received, to the institution, evaluation committee, and the NWCCU.

IGNITE program kicks off in support of underrepresented students

August 9, 2018

The IGNITE program launches this fall to help close the achievement gap for vulnerable SPSCC students.

Twenty-four students applied for the program, including five incoming freshmen, and 20 will enter the program.

IGNITE students get personalized advising, coaching, and a team of advocates and resources to keep them focused and moving toward their goals. The program is designed specifically to help first generation, low income, and students with disabilities to succeed.

Get recruited by Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Do you dream of attending a Historically Black College and University (HBCU)? SPSCC and the Thurston Group of Washington State are bringing HBCUs to Lacey to meet and enroll students on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018.

The 15th Students of Color Recruiting Day offers students a chance to meet HBCU representatives who are ready to enroll and award scholarships. Students should come ready to apply on-the-spot with official high school or college transcripts, letters of recommendation, and ACT or SAT scores. Parents are encouraged to attend.

This exciting partnership between SPSCC and Yelm Community Schools brings opportunities to the Yelm community at many learning levels. Featured on the cover, YHS student Bailey Hobson is considering Running Start to launch into the Culinary Arts program, teacher Erika Hedegard will teach College in the High School chemistry classes, and Principal Ryan Akiyama will continue to create paths to higher education for YHS students.
