SPSCC welcomes professor Kip Fulbeck to close out the 2017-18 Artist & Lecture Series season. Fulbeck’s lecture, a powerful message surrounding multiracial identities, will be held at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.
Kip Fulbeck is a pioneering artist, spoken word performer, and filmmaker. Recipient of the UCSB Distinguished Teaching Award, he is also the author of several books. Fulbeck created The Hapa Project, which was awarded the inaugural Loving Prize at the Mixed Roots Film and Literary Festival.
SPSCC will host the 30th annual Career Day event on May 10, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Career Day unites more than 60 local employers with students, alumni, and community members each year at the gymnasium at the SPSCC Olympia Campus. Attendees can leverage the event app, new this year, to connect with employers before and after the event.
The Student Senate along with president Tim Stokes and 60 students welcomed Rep. Beth Doglio and Sen. Sam Hunt to campus on April 17, 2018, for a Student Town Hall Event.
After a recap of the legislative session and its impact on higher education, students engaged the legislators surrounding a broad variety of topics, including Running Start, Initiative 940, Animal Breed Restrictions, Animal Rights, and Open Educational Resources to help with textbook affordability. Student Daniela Suarez, Senator of Legislative Affairs, arranged the event.
The Gallery at SPSCC is proud wrap up the 2017-18 school year with two outstanding shows highlighting student success in art and collaboration.
Student Art Exhibition
In its 13th year, the Student Art Exhibition features work from studio art classes during the 2017-18 school year, selected by SPSCC art faculty. Works include ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, digital photography, mixed-media, 2D and 3D design exercises, and sculpture. A continuous slide show of additional work is also included in this exciting showcase of student creations.
