College Success Course Policy

Policy: 

It is the policy of South Puget Sound Community College that all certificate and degree-seeking students will take the college success course. The college will phase this policy in gradually.

2018-19 Academic Year

Required for students who:

  • Have not taken the placement test
  • Place into any of the following:
    • Math 90, 94, 96,97,or 101
    • Business 104
    • English 90, 95 or 98

Students who meet any of the following criteria are exempt from this policy:

  • Running Start students
  • Have passed an equivalent college success course
  • Transfer 30 or more college-level credits from any regionally accredited institution within their first quarter of enrollment

2019-20 Academic Year

This policy applies to all students except those who meet the following criteria:

  • Have passed an equivalent college success course
  • Transfer 30 or more college-level credits from any regionally accredited institution within their first quarter of enrollment
Purpose: 

The college success course will prepare students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the college environment, succeed as college students, and choose an SPSCC Pathway.

The gradual phase-in allows time to develop training, a pool of qualified faculty, and a clear role in Pathways.

To Whom Does This Policy Apply: 

All SPSCC students seeking a for-credit certificate or degree.
