Sex Offender Notification Procedures

The Sex Offender Review Committee will determine the extent of the disclosure and release of information based on the relevancy and necessity of counteracting the offender’s dangerousness to the college community.  The extent of the disclosure shall be directly related to the:

(a) level of risk posed by the offender (Level I, Level II, and Level III);

(b) locations where the offender is regularly found; and

(c) needs of the affected college community members for information to enhance their individual and collective safety.

The Review Committee will consist of the Vice President for Student Services, the Director of Campus Security, and the Coordinator of Student Clubs and Organizations.

 

Level I Offenders – (Low Risk to the Community)

Notification Procedures: The Director of Security shall disclose the names of Level I offenders to any individual college community member upon request. 

 

B. Level II Offenders – (Intermediate Risk to the Community)

Notification Procedures:

  1. The Director of Campus Security will automatically notify, by virtue of their position at the college, the campus child care center director, the College President, Vice Presidents and the Director of College Relations.

 

  1. The Vice President for Student Services, after determination by the Sex Offender Review Committee, will notify (via a letter with a web address to view the offender’s photograph) faculty and students in each class in which the offender is enrolled.   The Sex Offender Review Committee may determine, based on the facts of each case that notification is necessary to other departments (e.g. Student Programs, Athletics, Gymnasium, Math Center, Writing Center, Library, and Advising & Counseling) on campus.  In addition, the sex offender will be mailed a certified letter indicating the college’s intended actions of notification.

 

C. Level III Offenders – (High Risk to the Community)

Notification Procedures:

  1. The Director of Campus Security will automatically notify, by virtue of their position at the college, the campus child care center director, the College President, Vice Presidents and the Director of College Relations.

 

  1. The Vice President for Student Services will notify, after determination by the Sex Offender Review Committee, (via a letter and a flyer with the offender’s photograph) faculty and students in each class in which the offender is enrolled.  A flyer with the offender’s photograph will be prepared and posted on campus bulletin boards, published in the student newspaper, and emailed to all faculty and staff at least once per quarter.  The flyer will also contain a statement indicating that individual college community members may contact the Director of Campus Security for the names of Level I and Level II offenders enrolled at the college.  In addition, the sex offender will be mailed a certified letter indicating the college’s intended actions of notification.
