Students of Color Conference

Students of Color Conference

April 18-20, 2019
Yakima, WA

The Students of Color Conference (SOCC) offers educational workshops designed to help students lead in a diverse community. In addition, students participate in a group discussion of issues that affect their own identity group. Students will be able to network with other student leaders from Washington State colleges.

SOCC 2019 Application

The SOCC 2019 Application is open from December 1, 2018 to March 8, 2019 by 5:00 pm.

These conferences are meant to enhance and enrich our students’ learning experience. Currently enrolled SPSCC students only are eligible to apply. While students of color are encouraged to apply, these conferences are open to any student that demonstrates strong ally-ship and a commitment to diversity issues on campus.

Students who want to apply to this conference must write a double spaced one-page reflection describing their expectations for the conference and what they want to get out of this experience and attaching it to the application. Secondly, students need to prepare themselves in order to make the most of their conference experience (ex: attending Brown Bag Chats, DLI Certificate series, coming to the DEIC and engaging in conversations regarding underrepresented populations, and attending DEIC events). Lastly, students are encouraged to participate in an educational project after attending the conference so they can "give back" to the campus community.

If selected, there will be a mandatory pre-conference orientation Friday, April 12, 2019, at 3:30-5:00 pm, in the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Center.
