ID Card or Canvas Name Change

In order for a student to change their name on Canvas or on their Student ID card, students must complete and sign the Preferred Name Request Form available in the Student Life Office, Building 27, Student Life Desk. This form only changes their name in Canvas and on their student ID card.

Official Name Change with SPSCC

In order for a student to change their name officially with SPSCC, students need bring in a government-official document with that name change. Such documents can be Social Security Card, Marriage License, Court Document, Picture ID (driver's license or passport), or Birth Certificate.

If receiving Financial Aid, students must bring in their Social Security Card with their official name change.

The name change form and documentation can be turned in at the One-Stop in Building 22 on the Olympia Campus or Building 1 on the Lacey Campus.

One-Stop staff will communicate name changes to IT, E-Learning, and Financial Aid. If your name hasn't been changed in any of these areas within five business days, please contact the appropriate department.

Gender Marker Change with SPSCC

In order for a student to change their gender marker with SPSCC, students need to have their gender marker changed officially, and can bring in a government-official document with that gender marker change. Such documents can be Picture ID (driver's license or passport), or Birth Certificate. This can be done at the same or separate time as their official name change.

***If a student currently or plans to receive financial aid and was assigned female at birth and have officially changed their gender marker to male they must contact Selective Service System and receive a waiver to not sign up for the draft. If a student was assigned male at birth and has changed their gender marker to female they still have to sign up for the draft.
