At the completion of the Machining Technologies Program, the successful student will be able to:

  • Communicate with diverse audiences and in a variety of contexts, both orally and through writing, within the machining and manufacturing environment
  • Identify, analyze, and synthesize relevant data and inputs within a machining and manufacturing environment and troubleshoot identified issues
  • Select and safely operate appropriate tools, equipment, and software used in machining and manufacturing industries
  • Demonstrate proficiency of quality control and process management systems utilized in machining and manufacturing
  • Accurately use precision measurement methods and interpret information presented in spreadsheets, graphs, charts, and blueprints
  • Identify and adapt to workplace, co-worker, and supervisor cultural differences to be an effective team member
  • Demonstrate ethical, environmentally sustainable, and socially responsible work habits
  • Recognize how machining fits within the whole of a manufacturing project

ENGL090 5cr Integrated Reading and Writing I
Introduces students to college-level reading and writing. Focuses on reading strategies, critical thinking, and writing unified paragraphs. ENGL 090 classes are combined with ENGL 095 classes, and students who demonstrate ENGL 095 proficiency may earn ENGL 095 credit. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement or an �S� in ABE 054, ABE 055, ESL 065, ESL 066, IE 065, or IE 066.

Prepares students for entry into college-level writing courses. Focuses on reading analytically, thinking critically, and writing coherent, well-supported texts. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement based on Reading & English CPT scores or transition test.

MATH101 5cr Technical Mathematics I
Covers the theories and applications of mathematics used in technical fields with emphasis on problem solving strategies, measurement, algebra, geometry, unit conversions and the metric system. Fees: $12.00 Natural Applied Science Course Fee

Provides an overview of the machining career including the types of machines used, history of the machining trades, overview of machining careers, and introduction to NIMS certification. CMT102 5cr Measurement, Materials and Safety
Provides an overview of basic safety, measurement techniques, and quality assurance processes required for the machining trades. Students will learn content necessary to successfully pass the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification test for Measurement, Materials & Safety. Introduces the theory and processes for quality assurance in machining. Students will learn content necessary to pass the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification test for Job Planning, Benchwork, and Layout. CMT107 5cr Job Planning, Benchwork, and Layout
Introduces the tools, machines and theory required for the machining industry, with an emphasis on job planning, benchwork, and layout procedures. Students will learn content necessary to pass the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification test for Job Planning, Benchwork, and Layout. CMT109 6cr CNC Mills and Lathes
Provides intermediate to advanced instruction on Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) mills and lathes, with an emphasis on setup and operations, tool mounting, and process planning. Students will learn content necessary to pass the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification test for CNC Milling - Operations. Recommended concurrent enrollment with CMT 110. CMT110 6cr CNC Programming
Provides intermediate level instruction in Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) programming for mills and lathes. Students will learn content necessary to pass the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification test for CNC Milling - Operations. Recommended concurrent enrollment with CMT 109. CMT201 6cr Advanced Machining (Mills and Lathes)
