Creating a Legacy of Opportunity

Planned Giving offers a way to make a long-lasting impact in as little as one sentence. Talk with your estate planner about leaving an estate gift to the SPSCC Foundation through a bequest in your Will or Living Trust or by designating us a beneficiary.

Samples gifts that can be identified as Planned Giving:
  • Cash Gifts – A simple, impactful option in estate planning. You can designate a percentage or a specific amount in your will or trust.
  • Securities – Stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have appreciated in value can provide a tax- advantaged way to give.
  • Retirement Plan Distributions – These assets offer a practical resource for charitable gifts, both now and as part of your long-term estate plans.
  • Life Insurance Policies – Using life insurance to support SPSCC is a convenient and tax-efficient way to make a lasting contribution to the future of education.
  • Real Estate – Often an overlooked asset, real estate gifts can provide significant tax benefits while enhancing your financial security.

  • IRAs and retirement plans
  • Life insurance policies
  • Donor-advised funds
  • Commercial annuities

Before deciding on the type of legacy gift you want to make, be sure to explore options that best align with your planned giving goals. Contact your broker, insurance agent, or financial representative for assistance in finding the best way to establish a gift plan that is right for you.

How It Works

  1. Request a change-of-beneficiary form from the administrator of your retirement plan, insurance policy, or bank account, or download the form from your provider's website.
  2. Decide what percentage (1 to 100) you would like the South Puget Sound Community College Foundation to receive and name us, along with the percentage you choose, on the beneficiary form. Return the completed form to your provider.
  3. Contact the Foundation. Notifying the Foundation of your plans enables us to support your intentions and plan for the use of your future gift.

Bequest Language

Following are two examples of sample language for bequests.

  1. For an unrestricted gift that permits South Puget Sound Community College to determine the use of funds based on greatest needs:

"I give to South Puget Sound Community College Foundation, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 2100 Mottman Road SW, Olympia, WA 98512, or its successor thereto,___________[written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose."

  2. To designate your provision for a specific purpose:

"I give to South Puget Sound Community College Foundation, a nonprofit organization currently located at 2011 Mottman Road, SW, Olympia, WA 98512, or its successor thereto,____________[written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property.] This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as South Puget Sound Community College Foundation determines that the need exists. If South Puget Sound Community College Foundation shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then South Puget Sound Community College Foundation may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above."
