Kaia Selene, Artist’s statement
Sissy von Meow-Meow is at once a character, a stage and an opportunity. As an artist, I create
multi-disciplinary works which aspire to nurture authentic connectivity. I think of myself as more
of a connection activist than anything else, and the best way to describe what I do currently is to
say that I provide experiences. These moments don’t require participation, so there’s also a
passive audience. But there’s an element of participation possible and those who do so are
rewarded.

Because I use a vast array of mediums to create with, I’m in a constant state of growth,
experimentation, failure and novelty. Mediums used to create this show include paper arts,
costuming, puppet making, food art, sculpture and performance. As well as “creating pathways
for interactive expression” (here: making games).

My creative collaborator, local artist and musician Alicia Capp, provides sound, reacting to
whatever is happening in real time, to further submerge folks within these moments. We hope
you enjoy sharing in this one which is entitled “Sissy von Meow-Meow and the Weirdly
Wonderful Worms”!

Kaia Selene Bio

multimedia works aspire to nurture authentic connection and may include elements of
performance, movement, puppetry, costuming, sculpture, visual arts, textiles, sound, writing and
food art.

She's also a studied Butoh dancer and an extensive interview regarding her Butoh work appears
in Women of the Underground: Art: Cultural Innovators Speak for Themselves by Zora Von
Burden.

Alicia Capp Bio
Olympia-based multimedia artist and musician, Alicia Capp, has been experimenting with
various forms of artistic expression for decades. From sound to painting to performance— she
seeks to invoke a sense of awe in viewers.

Though classically trained in music and visual art, Alicia’s interest lies in the liminal space
between convention and experimentation, between the recognizable and deeply abstract. Her
work encourages us to experience the beauty and mystique of the present moment, beyond the
mind.

Live Performance on Saturday, March 15, 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
