Student Housing

To live in the apartment program, you must meet these requirements:

• Be an SPSCC student. During Fall, Winter, and Spring, register for at least 12 credits each quarter unless Housing gives you written approval for a different amount. Twelve credits is considered full-time enrollment.

• During Summer, register for at least one class unless Housing approves an exception in writing. Some college-approved summer programs have different requirements. Ask Housing if you are unsure which rule applies to you.

• Stay in good academic and conduct standing. This means you must meet the college’s academic requirements and follow college and housing rules. Housing checks these requirements. Contact us if you are unsure whether you qualify.

• Be at least 18, or turn 18 during your first quarter in housing. If you are under 18 when you sign the lease, a parent or legal guardian must also sign it.

Each housing space is for one SPSCC student. A partner, child, or other family member cannot live with you in your assigned space. This program does not provide family housing.

Apply for the quarter when you want to move in. A housing placement is an offer of a space in the apartment program. It is not confirmed until you accept the offer and complete the required steps.

1 Submit your application

Fill out the online Student Housing Application. Check the priority deadline for your quarter below. The priority deadline is the date to apply by for the main round of housing offers. Applying before this date does not mean you will receive an early offer or a guaranteed room.

2 Complete the background check and requested documents

By applying, you understand that SPSCC will complete a background check. Follow the instructions Housing sends and provide any additional information we request. Ask Housing for help if you do not understand a step.

3 Wait until after the priority deadline for an offer

All housing placements happen after the priority application deadline. The earliest you should expect a placement decision is about one week after that deadline. Submitting your application early does not mean you will receive a placement decision before then.

If we can offer you a space, you will usually receive your housing offer about one month before the quarter you applied for begins. These are estimated timeframes, not guaranteed dates. You may receive an offer later if space becomes available. Housing may contact you earlier to ask for documents or share an application update; that does not mean a space has been assigned.

4 Check your SPSCC email and respond to your offer

If you meet the requirements and a space is available, Housing will email an offer with a response deadline. Accept by that deadline. If you do not respond on time, we may offer the space to another student and move your application to the bottom of the waiting list.

If no space is available, you may be placed on a waiting list. This means you are waiting for a possible opening. It does not guarantee that you will receive housing. Keep checking your email and consider other housing options while you wait.

5 Complete your paperwork and arrange move-in

After accepting, complete your lease and other documents, follow the payment instructions, and schedule a move-in appointment. A lease is the agreement that explains your housing dates, costs, and responsibilities. Read it before signing. Housing will tell you when and where to get your keys. Do not move in before your approved date.

Apply for SPSCC Student Housing

A $125 non-refundable background check fee applies when you accept a placement. Review the costs below before accepting an offer.

The amounts below are rent for one student for an entire quarter. A private bedroom costs more because you do not share the bedroom. Both options are in shared apartments.

Summer and Fall 2026 are included so you can compare past costs. Applications for those terms are closed. These amounts do not announce rates for Summer or Fall 2027. The August 1 option covered a shorter summer stay for students in a college-approved program that required them to be on campus during August.

Rates for Upcoming Quarters

Housing rates and fees for Summer 2027, the Summer 2027 August 1 athlete move-in option, Fall 2027, Winter 2028, and Spring 2028 have not been approved yet. We expect to share the official rates and fees in January or February 2027. The August 1 option is a shorter summer housing stay for eligible student athletes. Do not use the past rates on this page as confirmed prices for these upcoming quarters.

Fees and deposit when you start housing

• Application and required background check fee: $125. This fee is charged when you accept a housing offer. It is non-refundable, which means it is not returned to you.

• Housing deposit: $950 total. Of this amount, $650 is non-refundable and $300 may be returned after you move out. Housing may use the refundable portion for charges you owe, such as damage or cleaning costs.

These amounts are separate from rent. For example, a new student in a shared bedroom for Winter would have $2,200 in rent plus $125 and $950, for a total of $3,275. A private bedroom would total $4,475. Other charges may apply if listed in your lease.

You must keep the required deposit on file while you live in housing. If Housing has returned or used your deposit, you may need to restore at least $300 before a new lease term. Housing will tell you if you need to pay this amount.

What rent includes

Rent includes water, sewer, garbage, electricity, and shared Wi-Fi. You pay for your personal phone service and any services not included in your lease. Furniture and personal items are not provided.

How payments work

Housing charges are added to your SPSCC student account. Housing will send payment deadlines and instructions. A college payment plan may let you divide charges into smaller payments. Ask Financial Aid about the plan’s requirements with and deadlines before enrolling. Do not assume that accepting a housing offer enrolls you in a payment plan.

You may owe extra charges for damage, additional cleaning, lost keys or key fobs, or staying outside your approved housing dates. Read your lease and ask Housing if you have questions about a charge.

We are accepting applications for Winter Quarter 2027 and Spring Quarter 2027. Summer 2026, the August 1 Summer option, and Fall 2026 applications are closed. The Spring 2027 deadline is listed so you can plan ahead.

Dates for students applying for housing

The past August 1 Summer 2026 option also had a May 28, 2026 priority deadline. Its move-in date was August 1, 2026. It is no longer open.

When to expect a housing offer

We make all placements after the priority deadline. The earliest placement decisions begin about one week after that date. Housing offers usually arrive about one month before your quarter begins. Applying early does not mean you will receive an early offer. Check your SPSCC email for your decision and next steps.

The move-out date applies if you are ending your housing stay that quarter. If you are approved to stay for the next quarter, Housing will explain what to do during the break. Do not assume you must move out between quarters or that you may stay without approval.

Before you accept housing, take time to learn about the costs and rules. The sample documents below show what you can expect. They are for information only. Housing will give you the official documents for your own placement before you sign.

Sample Housing Lease

The lease is your housing agreement. It explains private and shared bedroom rates, housing dates, payment responsibilities, and other requirements. The sample includes both bedroom options; your own lease will show the option and dates assigned to you.

Sample Housing Handbook

The handbook explains daily life in housing. It includes rules about guests, quiet hours, cleaning, safety, maintenance, and moving out.

Housing is optional. If you choose to live in the program, you must provide accurate information, sign the required documents, follow the rules, and pay the housing charges. A parent or legal guardian must also sign the lease if you are under 18.

SPSCC does not provide insurance for your belongings. You can ask an insurance provider about renters insurance, which may help cover your belongings if they are damaged or stolen. Ask Housing if you do not understand a document before signing it.

Your signed lease lists the dates you can live in housing and the charges you must pay. Rent is charged by quarter. Before the next quarter, Housing will ask whether you plan to stay or move out.

Tell Housing your plans in writing by the deadline we provide. An email gives us a written record. Follow any additional instructions in your housing email. If you are unsure how to respond, ask Housing for help.

If you decide to leave, giving written notice by the required deadline can prevent charges for future quarters beyond your lease term, as explained in your lease. Moving out early is different from deciding not to stay for the next quarter. Talk to Housing before leaving early so you know what you may still owe.

To stay, you must continue meeting the student requirements and complete the required steps. Housing must approve your continued stay. You are not guaranteed housing for another term. Housing will tell approved students whether and how they may stay during school breaks.

Cleaning and apartment checks

Keep your bedroom and shared areas clean and safe. Housing staff check apartments at least once each quarter. These health and safety inspections help identify cleaning problems, repairs, and hazards. Housing will share inspection information with residents.

Quiet hours

Keep noise low from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. This includes music, TV, conversations, and laundry machines. Be respectful if a roommate or neighbor asks you to lower the noise at other times.

Guests

Ask all roommates for permission before having a guest. Your guest may be in the apartment only while you are there. You are responsible for your guest following the rules. Guests cannot live in the apartment or use an empty bedroom.

Empty rooms

Use only the bedroom or space assigned to you. Do not enter empty bedrooms, put belongings in them, or let guests stay in them.

Alcohol Smoking and Prohibited Items

SPSCC Student Housing is alcohol-free. Alcohol is not allowed in student housing, even if you or your guest are 21 or older. Follow the lease and handbook rules about smoking, vaping, marijuana, illegal drugs, weapons, and other prohibited items. Do not smoke or vape inside the apartment. Read the documents for the full rules and ask Housing if you are unsure whether something is allowed.

Pets and disability-related animals

Do not bring a pet into housing or let a visitor bring one without permission. If you use a service animal or need an assistance animal because of a disability, contact Housing to discuss the process and requirements that apply to you.

Keys and parking

Do not copy or lend your keys or key fob. A key fob is an electronic device used to unlock a door or gate. Report lost keys or fobs right away. You may be charged for replacements or a lock change.

Register your vehicle as required by Housing and your apartment complex. Park only in approved areas and follow the complex’s rules. Parking may be limited. Ask Housing where you can park before bringing a vehicle.

These are highlights, not the full set of rules. Read your lease and handbook, and ask Housing whenever you need help understanding an expectation.

If you want to change bedrooms or apartments, contact Housing before making plans. Room changes depend on available space and must be approved by Housing. Do not move your belongings, exchange keys, or begin staying in another room until Housing gives you permission and confirms your move date.

How requests are handled

Housing reviews room-change requests in the order they are received. A request does not guarantee a move. General room changes may be approved when a suitable space is available.

A mutual room swap means students agree to exchange their assigned spaces. Housing can approve a swap when all students taking part agree and Housing confirms that the change is allowed. Agreeing with another student does not give you permission to move on your own.

How a room change affects your rent

A private bedroom is billed at the single rate. A shared bedroom is billed at the double rate. If Housing approves a change between these bedroom types before the renewal deadline for the quarter, you will be charged the new bedroom rate for that quarter. The change applies to the quarter’s rent, not just the days after you move.

For example, if you move from a shared bedroom to a private bedroom before that deadline, you must pay the private-bedroom rate for the quarter. If you move from a private bedroom to a shared bedroom before that deadline, the shared-bedroom rate applies to that quarter.

Before accepting a room change, ask Housing which quarter and renewal deadline apply and what your total rent will be. Housing will confirm the approved move date and any change to your charges. A request made near or after a deadline does not automatically change your rent or qualify you for a refund. Moving to a lower-cost room does not automatically reduce charges for time you already spent in a private room. Do not plan on a lower rent amount until Housing confirms it.

Water, sewer, garbage, electricity, and shared Wi-Fi are included in rent. Pay your housing charges through your SPSCC student account by the deadlines Housing provides. If you use a payment plan, follow each payment deadline in that plan.

Keep the college’s Wi-Fi equipment in the apartment. Do not remove or replace it. Contact Housing if it stops working. If you are having trouble paying rent, contact Financial Aid to ask about resources. Asking for help does not automatically change your payment deadline or cancel a charge.

Contact Housing when you plan to leave. Moving out includes more than taking your belongings out of the apartment. Complete all of these steps:

• Tell Housing when you plan to leave and follow the written notice deadline in your lease or housing email.

• Schedule a final apartment check with Housing. This is called a move-out inspection.

• Remove all belongings and furniture, clean your bedroom and shared areas, and repair or report any damage as instructed.

• Return all issued keys, key fobs, parking permits, and other access items.

Housing reviews the apartment’s condition and any charges before deciding what money can be returned. A refund means money is returned to you or credited back to your account. Completing the move-out steps is required for a refund review; it does not guarantee a refund.

Housing rent refund schedule

Business days generally mean Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Instructional days are counted using the college’s class calendar. Ask Housing for the exact refund deadline for your quarter; do not count 15 calendar days from your move-in date.

A 40% refund means 40% of the quarter’s housing rent is returned and you remain responsible for the other 60%. These percentages apply to housing rent, not every fee or deposit. The $125 fee and $650 non-refundable portion are not returned. The $300 refundable portion is reviewed separately for charges you owe.

Rent is not refunded day by day outside these refund windows. If your housing agreement ends because of a rule violation, you may still owe housing charges. Contact Housing to discuss your situation before assuming you will receive money back.

Moving in early or staying late

You need written permission from Housing to move in before your approved date or stay after your housing ends. Approval depends on apartment readiness and staff availability. Extra daily charges may apply. Complete the required documents, payments, and scheduling before an approved early move-in or late move-out.
