South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) congratulates Clipper Golf student-athletes Jenna Kalar and Weston Potter on their selection to the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Golf All-League Second Team.

“I am incredibly proud of Weston and Jenna for earning Second Team All-League honors. For any player to receive all-league recognition is a major achievement, but for two freshmen to do it is truly special,” said Clipper Golf Head Coach Russ Olsen.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, the NWAC awards the Baden Golfer of the Year award, six members of the First Team All-NWAC, and six members of the Second Team All-NWAC for men’s and women’s golf.

Kalar’s selection to the All-League team marks a big step for the Clipper Golf program as she becomes the first-ever SPSCC women’s golfer to be named to the team. Kalar consistently finished as the top Clipper Women's golfer throughout the season as she broke team records for lowest round and overall scores. She had her best finish at the Blue Mountain Community College Invitational, where she finished as runner-up, shooting 82 on both days for the tournament.
"It’s an honor to be the first Clipper Women's athlete to receive All-League. It makes me feel proud of the work that I put in this season," said Jenna Kalar.

Potter’s selection to the All-League team also marks a first for the Clippers, as he becomes the first-ever men’s freshman to earn a nod to the team. Despite struggling early in the season, he was able to regroup and finish the last two league matches with a +8 performance in the SPSCC league match and +4 in the Olympic College match, where he finished tied for 9th and tied for 5th place, respectively.

Potter reflected on his freshman year at SPSCC, “I think this is a good step in the right direction. It’s a great start to my college golf career, and I’m honored and thankful to be selected to the NWAC Second Team. I’m really excited for more golf to come."

Coach Olsen spoke at length about his freshman golfers, as he believes that Kalar and Potter are strong pillars for next year’s teams. “It speaks volumes about their work ethic, their competitiveness, and the bright future of our golf program. They stepped up in big moments all season, and this is a well-deserved reward for their dedication,” Olsen said.

Both student-athletes will participate in the NWAC Golf Championships in Yakima, Wash. from May 17 to 18 at Apple Tree Golf Course. Sunday, May 17 tee time will be a 12 p.m. shotgun start and Monday, May 18 will be an 8 a.m. split start.
