Leo Gallery Hosts Native American Art Exhibition

The 15th Annual Native American Art Exhibition, Honoring the Hazel Pete Legacy: Chehalis Basketry, is coming to Leonor R. Fuller Gallery from Nov. 13 to Dec. 8, 2023. The opening reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Honoring the Hazel Pete Legacy: Chehalis Basketry is a themed exhibition highlighting traditional and contemporary basketry woven by the Hazel Pete Family. The exhibition includes coil and woven basketry types, a cattail mat lean-to, cedar clothing, storage baskets, storyteller doll diorama, photos depicting the gathering process, and contemporary glass baskets made at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Hazel Pete (Chehalis) was a 6th generation weaver from treaty negation times in western Washington – 7th, 8th, and 9th generation weavers will be featured in this exhibit.
