South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) congratulates Maxwell Sampson, Head Coach of Clipper Men's Soccer, on being named Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) West Region’s Co-Coach of the Year.
“I am humbled by the other NWAC coaches who voted for me for Co-Coach of the Year and noticed the momentum being created,” Coach Sampson shared. “It’s been a wonderful experience working with our student-athletes here at SPSCC, and I’ve mentioned throughout the fall how fast our soccer season passed by…that’s because we had so much fun.”
Coach Sampson joined SPSCC as Head Coach of Men’s Soccer and Educational Planner in April 2023, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the program. Before his tenure at SPSCC, Coach Sampson served as Lane Community College’s Head Coach from 2020 to 2022. He was recognized as the NWAC South Region’s Coach of the Year in 2022, a year in which Lane won the South Region championship and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Over the past six years, Coach Sampson's teams have consistently demonstrated excellence on and off the field, producing six All-Academic, 18 All-Region, and seven All-Star selections. This impressive track record is a testament to his commitment to both the athletic and academic development of his players.
“The men's soccer team has shown tremendous growth this season, and our department couldn't be prouder,” said SPSCC’s Director of Athletics Vernell Willingham. “We are extremely grateful for Coach Sampson's dedication to the program both on the pitch and in the classroom. He has instilled an exemplary work ethic and attitude of improvement each day for the student-athletes to become the best versions of themselves.”
“I’m grateful to the college administration, our athletics department, and the community for the high-quality environment they help cultivate here in Olympia,” added Sampson. “I have high hopes for the program moving forward, and this year has set a solid foundation. My focus is to continue to grow and develop as a coach for the young people who enter the soccer program. I will use this award as fuel to continue to give my best for them. Go Clippers!”
