“What I've learned from this experience is that I often underestimate my own strength,” said Artemis Kaur. “There were countless moments when giving up seemed like the easier path, but I pressed on because I want to prove to myself that I am worth every effort.”

Artemis is a student at South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity & Network Administration. As an international student from India who made her journey to the United States in 2022, Artemis has shown a relentless drive for excellence in her academic pursuits, chasing opportunities halfway around the world. Her interest in Cybersecurity comes from her extensive background in the IT industry, where she recognized the critical importance of safeguarding digital infrastructures against evolving threats.

“I see myself as a warrior and that's why there's a strong desire in me to protect,” Artemis shared. “This stems from the core values I learned from being born as a Sikh, although not conservative or extremely religious, and also being the eldest child. It also led me to choose Cybersecurity as a career.”

Outside of the classroom, Artemis's commitment to building her skills continues with her participation in SPSCC's IT club, the Mad Hatters, and has competed in various competitions. In the National Cyber League, Artemis placed in the top 25% of individual competitors. As a member of the Mad Hatters team, she contributed to their 43rd position. The Mad Hatters' exceptional performance continued into the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Pacific Rim Regional Competition, where they secured third place.

Beyond her achievements in cybersecurity competitions, Artemis's leadership qualities shine through her roles in SPSCC's Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Chapter. Serving as the Vice President of Service and Fellowship and President of the PTK Club, she is dedicated to connecting to the community.

“I've faced and continue to face significant struggles on my journey to where I want to be,” Artemis said, reflecting on her time at SPSCC so far. “What propels me forward is the hope that one day I can support people in reaching their potential while navigating similar challenges.”

In the future, Artemis hopes to pursue a career in Cybersecurity, either in a Federal capacity or within the National Guard. She also hopes to continue her schooling to earn a doctorate and become an influencer in the Cybersecurity industry.

“My goal is to evolve into a version of myself that's strong, influential, and one that others can look up to and be proud of,” said Artemis. “I've started to believe in myself more than ever before, and now, I am here, committed to this journey, no matter what it takes.”
