“Thinking about my life and my experiences, what motivates me to succeed is the desire to change the lives of my family and my community for the better. I want to provide a secure future for my children, support my parents, and make a positive impact on my community,” said Genobia King-Webster. “My ultimate goal is to attend a four-year college without the constant stress of financial constraints, knowing that my education and efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of many.”
Genobia knows the difficulty of growing up with financial instability. Her experiences dealing with poverty and hunger pushed her to work toward a live where her family will never have to deal with those hardships again. This was a big reason why Genobia chose Business, Management, Marketing, Administration and Related Support Services as her major at South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC).
“As a mother of two, I have worked tirelessly to ensure my children do not have to endure the same hardships,” said Genobia. “I have chosen business administration and accounting as my major because I recognize the stability and financial security that a career in accounting can offer. Additionally, business administration will equip me with the skills and knowledge to become a business advisor to small businesses. This allows me to not only secure my own financial future, but also contribute to the growth and success of my community.”
After SPSCC, Genobia will continue her educational journey at Central Washington University where she will obtain her bachelor’s in business and accounting. Eventually, Genobia hopes to work towards getting a master’s and doctorate degree and start her own accounting business.
“My short-term goal is to work in the accounting department of a business to gain practical experience and refine my skills,” said Genobia. “My long-term goal is to open my own accounting firm, where I can provide comprehensive accounting services while supporting small businesses as an advisor. This will allow me to utilize my expertise to help local entrepreneurs thrive and contribute positively to my community.”
Genobia participated in a variety of events while at SPSCC, such as the Lacey Cultural Celebration, Earth Day cleanup, and Ocean Front event, where she helped in efforts to repopulate the mussel population in the region. She also served as a vice president and president at the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter at the college.
“The most meaningful aspect of my involvement with PTK has been the sense of belonging to a like-minded community. Being part of PTK makes me feel special, as I am surrounded by individuals who share my passion for helping our community and giving back,” said Genobia. “This shared commitment to service and excellence creates a supportive and inspiring environment that encourages personal growth and development.”
