New SPSCC Foundation Board President Marcus Glasper

The SPSCC Foundation is excited to introduce Marcus Glasper as the new President of our Board of Directors. With a wealth of experience and a deep passion for education, Marcus is poised to lead the board in supporting SPSCC students and advancing the Foundation’s mission. Here’s a closer look at his background, motivations, and vision for the future:

Tell us a little bit about your background and experience.

I have over 30 years of public sector experience including senior leadership roles in large, complex, and diverse organizations at both the Federal and state level, most recently serving as the Director of the Washington State Department of Licensing.  I started my career as an engineer with General Motors and hold a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's in Engineering Management.

What initially motivated you to join the SPSCC Foundation Board, and how did that path lead to your current role as Board President?

My parents instilled in me the importance of education. As a teacher, my father recognized that education was the path to opportunity, especially for marginalized communities. I came to realize that the path to building strong communities where everyone can thrive is by ensuring equitable access to education because it truly is, while not perfect, the great equalizer. Having lived in Thurston County for over 20 years and serving in other volunteer roles, it was evident the impact SPSCC was having in our community through expanding access, and I was elated to be able to join the board to be an advocate in helping further that mission. After several years on the board, I’m honored to be able to lead this group of talented, dedicated community members who are passionate about supporting SPSCC students, equity and inclusion, and growing the next generation of leaders.

What excites or inspires you most about the future of the board and the Foundation?

SPSCC has become a nationally known and recognized model as a community college focused on excellence in student success. I’m excited that the Foundation has created an ambitious strategic plan that centers students, supports the college in continuing its journey in ensuring student success and working toward equitable outcomes, and establishes a vision of world class fundraising and community engagement. I look forward to continuing our work together as a Board in breaking down barriers and helping to address unmet needs so that vision can become a reality for our community.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

It’s an honor to be part of an organization that is uplifting our community through supporting and championing high-quality, inclusive education.

Marcus’ leadership and commitment to education will be invaluable as the SPSCC Foundation continues to grow its impact.
