South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) and Western Washington University (WWU) have launched a new direct admissions partnership designed to make transferring from community college to a four-year university easier, more transparent, and more supportive for students.
The partnership provides SPSCC students with a clearer pathway to continue their education at WWU by connecting them with university resources earlier in their academic journey. Through direct admissions, students can explore transfer opportunities, understand how their credits apply toward a bachelor's degree, and begin planning for financial aid and academic requirements well before they graduate from SPSCC.
"We know students are more successful when they have a clear plan for what comes next," said Dr. Dave Pelkey, SPSCC Vice President for Student Services. "This partnership with WWU allows students to begin building that pathway early, understand how their coursework applies to their future degree, and access support from both institutions throughout the transfer process. Our goal is to remove barriers and help students move forward with confidence."
The partnership builds on a strong history of student transfer between the two institutions. Nearly 500 students who attended SPSCC have transferred to WWU in the past six years, demonstrating the university's popularity among SPSCC graduates seeking to continue their education.
The new partnership reflects both institutions' commitment to student success and educational attainment across Washington state. By strengthening connections between community colleges and universities, SPSCC and WWU are helping students save time, reduce uncertainty, and stay on track toward earning a bachelor's degree.
