South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) today announced that it has been granted accreditation by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) for its College in the High School (CiHS) program. This makes SPSCC the ninth accredited program in Washington State and the sixth accredited among the state's two-year colleges.
CiHS is a statewide program that allows qualified high school students to earn college credits for classes taught by their high school teachers on the high school campus, allowing them to experience college-level curriculum while staying in a familiar environment.
“We are very excited to earn accreditation through NACEP as this will allow SPSCC to continue to grow our program in a purposeful and consistent way, showing that we are aligned with the rigorous national standards,” said Anne Molenda, Director of K12 Partnerships and Recruitment. “Being part of NACEP also provides a lot of resources to us as a concurrent enrollment college, helping us strengthen our partnerships with our high schools as well as improving the classroom, admissions, and registration process for students.”
Amy Tureen, Dean of Academic Success Programs, added, “Achieving NACEP accreditation now ensures that SPSCC's CiHS program already meets the program standards that will become obligatory in the next few years. Now students and their parents can rely on being able to complete SPSCC college courses on their high school campuses for many years to come.”
The Accreditation Commission and Peer Review Team commended SPSCC for its exemplary performance in several key areas, including providing opportunities for students in rural and lower socioeconomic areas, streamlining the process of student registration, and offering students excellent guidance throughout their academic journey with the help of Navigators and Educational & Career Planners.
