The South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Theatre Collective presents Small Mouth Sounds at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts Black Box from Feb. 21 to March 2, 2025.
Small Mouth Sounds follows six city-dwellers seeking refuge from their chaotic lives by embarking on a silent retreat in the woods. As they navigate their shared quiet, each character wrestles with inner struggles that are both profound and laughably absurd. Their silence becomes both a challenge and a mirror, reflecting the universal desire for connection and understanding. Infused with tender humor, the play explores how we confront life’s biggest questions when words are not an option.
The cast includes Kimberlee Wolfson, Sara Thiessen, Debe Eden, Mike Gregory, Jae Pack, Jeremy Holien, as well as SPSCC student Chloe Swanson. Behind the scenes, SPSCC students Raessa Patterson, Marisol Stsesltzner, and Emily Cole are working as Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Props/Set Crew respectively.
“The winter production in the Black Box gives us the opportunity to produce an intimate play. Bess Wohl's Small Mouth Sounds gives us space to reflect together on our human foibles, our search for meaning, and our place in a wide, chaotic world,” said Dr. Lauren Love, Drama Professor at SPSCC. “Though it is a short piece, it is both funny and profound, filled with richly drawn characters who take difficult journeys. It pokes gentle fun and also shows compassion for these characters so that we can poke gentle fun at ourselves and show compassion for one another.”
Admission is a suggested $12 donation at the door. SPSCC students, staff, and faculty are free. More information, including performance dates and times, is available on the college’s Arts & Entertainment Calendar.
