Bio:
I began painting in oils as a child with various teachers in Connecticut and New York, and later, continued drawing and painting in several mediums at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, with Henry Chodkowski, Ying Kit Chan, and Kit Hillery. This included study abroad in the summer of 1989. Several paintings and drawings were accepted for a Juried Summer Student Exhibition, and Summer in Paris Exhibition at the Morris B. Belknap, Jr. Galleries, Allen R. Hite Art Institute, University of Louisville. In 1990, I attended the San Francisco Art Institute where I continued studying drawing and painting with Franklin Williams. I graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1998.
More recently, in early March, 2020, I attended a 10-day intensive three-part course in drawing, sculpture, and painting, with Simon Kogan, at the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Also, in 2020, two of my paintings were included in the 2020 Southwest Washington Juried Exhibition online at the Leonor R. Fuller Gallery webpage.
I have continued to study with Simon Kogan in Olympia since October, 2020. I live and work at Olympia Zen Center in Olympia, Washington, where Eido Frances Carney is the founder and teacher, as well as an accomplished painter and writer, and teaches workshops in the arts as a vital aspect of Zen practice.
