Artist Statement:

My photographic work with ice “tools” is process-oriented.  I’m not content to stand in front of something and simply “take” a picture.  Instead, I hope to provoke a kind of wonder that transcends photography and inspires people to seek answers to the dilemmas in their own lives. At the least, I want my viewers to come away with meaningful questions that go beyond representation, the traditional realm of the photograph.

My subjects are studied, molded, and then frozen.  They are transitory and delicate, and can easily break.  Climate plays a role in the relatively quick period when the subjects are extracted from their molds--still very much frozen—and transferred to a dark box where they can be lit and photographed.  This is sculptural work, and intuitive.  Just like a fragile tool, I place myself in service to a larger force.
