I am a public heath worker who started making prints during the pandemic, to stave off mental breakdown. I make woodcut prints (mokuhanga) using tradition Japanese materials and techniques. I mostly focus on built environment subjects with the objective of increasing visibility of history that has been neglected, minimized, forgotten, or erased.
Depiction of Fuzhou Ting in Chinese Reconciliation Park, Tacoma, Washington. The park commemorates violent, white supremacist rioting and the expulsion of Chinese people from Tacoma. The print is aizuri-e mokuhanga made from three cherry woodblocks, printed onto handmade, 100% kozo washi, using watercolor, sumi, and nori, with back printed layer (ura-zuri).
