I was born in NYC and learned early on that my imagination was a superpower I could use creatively throughout my artistic career. I studied classical sculpture at Massachusetts College of Art but made a living as a painter and arts integration educator. During these past five decades as a professional artist, l have endeavored to share that creativity is not limited to European standards but, encompasses every aspect of our lives as we harness and develop creative thinking/exploration skills. I have used this elemental philosophy in my approach to my multicultural artwork and it has widened my worldview greatly. I have worked independently as an artist and as a black woman of 75, I am proud of how I have survived many challenging times in our recent social history. It has been my life's work to be a witness to these events through my multimedia work as a sculptor, painter photographer and educator.
As a multimedia artist, Rene seeks to engage the viewer with visual ideas that stimulates the senses with a range of techniques, elemental forms, and bold visual interpretations. To this end, fine arts, photography and collage become the catalyst to the irreverence she's determined to uncover. Rene recognizes the uncertain times she lives in and yet, there is so much beauty and grace in her pursuit as an oracle of creative ideas that is focused on women, race and identity.
Rene's most recent work takes her into the digital realm of reinvention. She skillfully takes her own original paintings, collages and photographs and digitally overlays them into brand new creations. The rupture of color and chaos in these new images brings about a shift in how far the current work can ascend. Rene is very excited about using these digital enhancements to scale new heights of imagination in pursuit of unique and dynamic creations
