I currently live in Kamilche Washington and work in kiln cast glass, stone and metal.
I am fascinated by the processes of erosion, growth, geologic formations and the stories told by stones, fossils and archeological remnants unearthed from buried strata.The beauty of natural processes and shapes of water and ice have always influenced my art. I am also fascinated by tools of daily living, modern artifacts that hold memories of previous generations.
I grew up exploring the forests, beaches and inlets of Puget Sound. The shapes and textures of bark, leaves, stones, shells, erosion and the patterns of light on water shaped my early impressions of the world.
I studied Fine Arts at the University of Puget Sound and worked in sculpture and bronze casting at Pierce College. I graduated from The Evergreen State College with a degree in media arts and worked in photography and media production for over twenty years producing narrative video, documentaries and interactive multimedia.
I currently work in glass because I am endlessly fascinated with the nature of glass. Glass art combines hard physical work with craftsmanship. Glass is both tough and fragile and can present as opaque and solid or translucent and ephemeral. Glass bends,reflects and transmits light. The appearance of glass is dynamic as it constantly changes with the light. I believe that beauty and mystery enhance our lives and I hope to make art that brings joy and curiosity to the lives of people who bring my art into their homes.
