What is I-BEST?

The Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) program is a nationally recognized program that helps all new students take their first steps into college level classes at SPSCC, with a particular emphasis on supporting adult learners in the Adult Basic Education, General Education Development (GED), High School Plus, or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs.

This program provides a team teching model to all intoductory-to-lower-division courses throughout all degree pathways at the college - meaning these courses have two instructors who work together to create a dynamic learning environment so that students have multiple ways of learning and understanding the course material.

In addition to this team-teaching model, students are also provided with support from the Transition Specialists in the Transition Studies Department who offer advising, help with registering for classes, or connections to resources (both on and off campus).

The instructor teams work with the Transition Specialists to ensure students are offered personalized support to help them better balance life and school, build the literacy/technical skills needed to earn credentials, get jobs, and become future leaders in their chosen fields.

Most students will be in I-BEST courses for their first one to five quarters, depending on their placement and program of study. The Transition Specialists will connect students with the Advisors from the Advising, Career and Transfer Center (or a faculty advisor in their program) for more support with their adacemic planning.

Students can meet with a Transition Studies Transition Specialist to ask about their personal program length and time of completion.
