Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are an opportunity for SPSCC employees to gather and connect around issues that define them personally, and which affect their work at the College and their professional development.

All ERGs are open to all employees and participation is completely voluntary.

ERGs support professional and personal development, contribute to the College’s social equity work, and build and strengthen employee networks. 

ERGs are created and run by College employees and can be formed around common interests, bonds, or backgrounds. Some examples could be characteristics like national origin, gender, sexual orientation, working parents, veteran status, living with chronic illness, professional or academic interests, or caring for aging family members.

Employees can use work time, equipment, and space for ERG-related activities. ERGs are also able to support their group activities.

There is no right or wrong way to form or lead an ERG.

Washington’s State Human Resources office has a page for Statewide Business Resource Groups which shares charters and other materials from similar groups that have been created statewide.

Have you ever wondered how the many departments, systems, and processes across the college work together to support student success? This is your opportunity to find out! We're excited to invite all employees to participate in The Admin Collective Employee Resource Group. This ERG is not limited to administrative staff. Anyone interested in learning more about how the college functions collaboratively across departments is welcome to join. Come be part of a community that celebrates the important work happening across our institution and helps us learn from one another. Together, we'll create opportunities to grow, connect, and strengthen the partnerships that make our college successful.

The Kraken Community Cove Employee Resource Group is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for all employees at SPSCC. Our focus is on building connections and a strong sense of community through professional, personal, and emotional support from meetings, events, and fellow ERG members. We also foster inclusiveness while honoring uniqueness, which gives members a sense of belonging and encourages individual growth. 

The Kraken Community Cove meetings and events promote connections and community across the college to enhance cross-department relationships to better serve our students and community. We do this in several ways:

  1. Interpersonal skills workshops: workshops on communication tools and techniques to build and strengthen working relationships. 
  2. Improve employee emotional and mental well-being: workshops or sessions on topics such as self-reflection, emotional regulation, emotional intelligence, and stress management skills. 
  3. Provide unstructured community-building opportunities.

The LGBTQIA+ ERG creates a space for LGBTQIA+ staff and faculty at the college to share resources, build support and community, and work towards greater equity and accessibility. The goal is to embrace and celebrate the diversity of our staff and faculty while empowering them to live their most authentic lives. Through a shared governance model, the LGBTQIA+ ERG will act as a liaison with executive leadership to provide professional development opportunities for staff and faculty, improve employee and student retention, and improve equity and access for LGBTQIA+ students.

The Staff and Faculty of Color Employee Resource Group is open to all SPSCC employees who are interested in building connections, fostering understanding, and strengthening our college community.

Through meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and opportunities for professional and personal growth, the SFOC ERG creates space for employees to connect, celebrate culture, and build relationships across the college. Together, we learn from one another, broaden perspectives, and contribute to a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported!

The SFOC ERG supports SPSCC by:

  • Creating opportunities for employees from all areas of the college to connect, network, and form meaningful relationships
  • Offering discussions, resources, and professional development opportunities that encourage leadership, well-being, and career advancement
  • Providing space for storytelling, learning, and dialogue that deepen understanding and appreciation of the many backgrounds represented at SPSCC
  • Sharing perspectives and fostering connections that help employees collaborate effectively and better serve our students
