Statement
Sara Gettys is an artist and designer in Olympia, WA. The plants, animals, and natural landscape of Washington state are core themes in her pieces, while working in highly tactile mediums such as ceramics and relief carving are central to her creative process. Texture is a part of the core vocabulary of her work, from the groove carved through the surface of wood to create a relief carving, to the imprint of the hand that shaped raw clay, to the layers of acrylic paint built up and sanded down to reveal unexpected contrasts and forms.
