Bio
I grew up outside of New York City.
My family did not take much interest in art.
I had a couple of excellent art teachers in high school and at Wellesley College.
I left Wellesley, went to secretarial school, did two full-time years at the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts while working in the museum bookstore, married, moved to Michigan, and eventually earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art at the advanced age of 26 and got a divorce.
I returned to Boston and worked as a temp secretary and bakery salesgirl. As a member of the Boston Visual Artists Union, I exhibited in many venues, including, once again, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I snagged a year-long college teaching job at New England College in Henniker, NH and spent a wonderful year there before heading west, intending to settle down in Los Angeles. When I paused in Olympia, I was surprised by its
charm and never left.
I showed some work at Childhoods End Gallery right away and continue to do so. I taught painting and printmaking at Evergreen, SPSCC, and Centralia College on my own and as a visiting artist within established academic programs and taught many evening/weekend classes.
My work has been carried by Childhood's End Gallery since 1976. I also showed my own work at Salon Refu, a gallery I operated in downtown Olympia 2013-21; at LGM Gallery, also in downtown Olympia; and fairly regularly as a member of the Union Art Cooperative in Seattle. I think I am good at looking at art and listening to artists. I am thrilled by the quality and energy of the SPSCC arts community and leadership. We are lucky to have this strong program at the Leo Gallery.
Thank you to Sean, Leo herself,
and the SPSCC community.
