South Puget Sound Community College is an approved institution to provide education and training benefits to veterans. Our Veteran & Military Services helps those using education and training benefits by guiding students through the application process. Our school certifying officials work to be an instructional and advisory aid between the Department of Veteran Affairs and you as an SPSCC student.

Honorably Discharged Veterans and Spouses will receive Priority Registration on their official course registration date. All newly admitted students must attend the New Student Advising and Registration orientation and will register on that day.

Enrollment Steps for Veteran Students

You can apply for admissions online via South Puget Sound Community College Admissions Application. Once your application is processed, you will receive an email with additional information to assist you in completing additional enrollment steps and activating your student email account.

Even if you are receiving VA educational benefits, you may be eligible for additional financial aid. Apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available online at the U.S Department of Education.

For information on enrolling in Federal Direct loans, service members may reach out to Anna Lopez Rodriguez at alopez@spscc.edu.

All students are assigned to a Success Network which includes a Financial Aid Specialist, Educational Planner, School Certifying Official and instructors. Visit my.spscc.edu to login to Compass to view your personal Success Network.

Complete assessment and placement to determine the best English, math and reading classes for you. You can also complete this step by submitting transcripts from all the schools you attended including military transcripts. You will need to submit official copies and complete this form to have them officially evaluated.

Submit your DD214, Member Copy #4 and Certification of Eligibility from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to the Veterans Services Office as soon as possible and before classes begin.

  • Submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA
You will need to apply for your VA Benefits through Veterans Administration (VA) in order to provide your COE.
  • You may also submit Statement of Benefits in lieu of the COE.  Please submit either via email to verteranservices@spscc.edu or in person to One-Stop (Building 22 on Main Campus) and ask for the School Certifying Official.

*If you have a previous transcript or JST please submit official transcripts. All official transcripts must be sent to the school for evaluation, including Military Transcripts. Fill out the Application for Transfer of Credit if necessary.

Complete the Pathway Selection Survey (PASS) and New Student Advising & Registration (NSAR) to learn about resources, meet advisors, and pick your Pathway and classes.

Once you’ve registered, please submit your online VA Enrollment Confirmation Form in order for us to pre-certify your enrollment and begin the process of the VA scheduling stipend payments for the quarter. Late registration or failure to submit this form at the time of registration can delay stipend payments and the ability to be held in classes pending tuition payment from the VA.

It is important that you pay any tuition and fees not covered by your VA benefits before the deadline. If your tuition and fees are 100% covered by your VA benefits you only need to submit your VA Enrollment Verification Form. Failing to do so will result in being dropped from your classes with no guarantee of getting the same schedule. SPSCC offers additional payment options

All VA education beneficiaries receiving monthly payments, including Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), and Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) (Chapter 35), are required to verify their enrollment monthly. This requirement ensures accurate and timely benefit payments and helps prevent overpayments. Dependents using Chapter 35 benefits are now included in this monthly verification requirement starting January 2026.
