Bio:
Susan was born and raised in the countryside of Korea. The rolling mountains, babbling creeks, gentle breezes, and the wildflower fields carved her character: she is a part of mother nature.
She studied fine art under Professors John Wisnosky and Don Dugal at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the early 1990s. Although she was busy raising two daughters and working full time, her love for art was always within her and she painted whenever possible. Susan returned to painting full time after retiring and moving to Hawaii in 2012, where she created oil paintings to depict the vivid Hawaii landscapes and seascapes. She moved back to the Pacific Northwest in 2017 and resides in Lacey, Washington with her husband.
She is passionate about painting and capturing the peacefulness of nature. Susan believes we live in a busy world and she wants viewers to experience nature’s serenity through her paintings. If you happen to spot her painting in a Washington State or National Park during the summertime, come and say hi.
Artist Statement:
Creating art defines my existence. When I am painting on a peaceful mountain, I feel complete happiness. I see vast open space. I see the mountains, sky, water, trees, and wild creatures right in front of my eyes. I feel the warmth of the sun on my body or a cooling gentle breeze while painting the gift from our creator. It is the greatest pleasure I enjoy.
Capturing peaceful nature in my art is my passion. I want viewers to feel and connect with their inner peace while viewing my paintings. Connecting with our inner peace teaches us to live mindfully, respect nature, including all living things, and to live fully in the present moment. I want to spread peace through my paintings.
